Principal: Alastair Drayton BCom, Grad Dip Tchg
Christchurch born-and-bred, Alastair attended Christchurch Boys’ High School and then Lincoln University, graduating with a BCom in Marketing and Business Management.
After four years teaching high school accounting and economics in New Zealand, Alastair taught in the UK for several years followed by four years at a high school in Ontario, Canada. Returning to New Zealand in 2002 he spent four years at Napier Boys’ High School where he was also Head of Scinde House, the school’s boarding house. Then, from 2005 he taught maths, economics and business studies at Rangiora High School, was appointed Dean in 2008; and, from 2011 - 2015, was Head of Lydiard House. Alastair took on the role as BM in May 2015.
Alastair has coached school rugby and cricket 1st X1 and currently plays Masters football for Cashmere Tech.
Alastair lives in the Lodge with his wife Andrea and children, Abigail and Nicholas - and their golden labrador Honey.
Bursar: Rex Dillon BCom, ACIS
After graduating from the University of Canterbury, Rex initially travelled overseas before returning to Christchurch to take on a Group Accountant role within the timber industry. He then took on similar roles within the engineering and third-party logistics sectors in Nelson before returning once more to hometown Christchurch. As Bursar, Rex is responsible for CH’s day-to-day management, its finances and its property. Rex is married to Kerrie and they have a son (James) and a daughter (Katherine) both of whom are UC graduates. Katherine is an alumna of College House. Rex is a keen gym-goer and football supporter and has been actively involved in sports administration over a long period.
Assistant Principal: Gillian Smith BMS, Grad Dip Tchg
After a career in marketing and insurance in Perth, Australia and London, Gillian chose to apply her skills to teaching in South Auckland then Christchurch. Most recently she was a senior leader at a Christchurch primary school. Gillian brings all her career experience and that of watching her own children move through to study at university and adapt to the tertiary setting and its challenges.
House Manager: Shirolee Gallagher
Shirolee manages both the kitchen and the housekeeping teams. In the kitchen, the focus is on creating fresh in-season menus which are ever changing to keep it interesting for students, staff as well as conference and event attendees.
With her housekeeping team, Shirolee ensures that everything in the House runs smoothly.
In her spare time, Shirolee enjoys exercising, music and spending time with her family.
Development Director: Erin Reeve
Erin is an old Girl of Samuel Marsden Collegiate and has recently moved to Christchurch from Wanganui where she undertook a Development role at Wanganui Collegiate School prior to working in Wellington at both the Commerce Commission and Greater Wellington Regional Council. Erin’s current responsibilities are to communicate the ambitions and needs of College House to the community.
Erin is our newest member of the College House management team and is married to Harry and they have two children, Tom and Harriet. Erin and her family have enjoyed their move to the mainland and are active supporters of the Crusaders rugby team! In her spare time, Erin and her family enjoy travel and heading to the Marlborough Sounds where they spend time at Port Ligar (Pelorus Sounds).
Office Manager: Rosemary Wall
Rosemary is the friendly voice who answers our phones, manages the office and is the first port of call for CH visitors. Rosemary started working with us in 2013. Previously she ran her own company in partnership with her husband, and was, for 16 years, office manager of a Christchurch business.
Facilities Manager: David-Jon Wheeler BLA (Hons)
DJ is Landscape Architecture graduate from Lincoln University. He also completed an apprenticeship in Horticulture at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens and has been a member of staff at CH since 2004. As Facilities Manager, DJ ensures our grounds and buildings function to a high standard and create a safe, efficient and comfortable environment for students and staff. When he’s not at CH, DJ will be found on the sports field supporting his children, developing his large home garden in Prebbleton or riding his MTB on the Port Hills.
