Principal: Alastair Drayton BCom, Grad Dip Tchg

Christchurch born-and-bred, Alastair attended Christchurch Boys’ High School and then Lincoln University, graduating with a BCom in Marketing and Business Management.

After four years teaching high school accounting and economics here in New Zealand, Alastair taught in the UK for several years followed by four years at a high school in Ontario, Canada. Returning to New Zealand in 2002 he spent four years at Napier Boys’ High School and was also head of the school’s boarding house, Scinde House. From 2005 to April 2015, he taught maths, economics and business studies at Rangiora High School, has been a Dean and, for the last four years, Head of Lydiard House.

Alastair has coached school rugby and cricket 1st X1, and currently plays Masters football for Cashmere Tech.

Alastair lives in the Lodge with his wife Andrea and children - Abigail who is in Year 9,  Nicholas who is Year 8 - and their golden labrador Honey.

Bursar: Rex Dillon BCom, ACIS

After graduating from the University of Canterbury, Rex initially travelled overseas before returning to Christchurch to take on a Group Accountant role within the timber industry. He then took on similar roles within the engineering and third-party logistics sectors in Nelson before returning once more to hometown Christchurch. As Bursar, Rex is responsible for CH’s day-to-day management, its finances and its property. Rex is married to Kerrie and they have a son (James) and a daughter (Katherine) both of whom are UC graduates. Katherine is an alumna of College House. Rex is a keen gym-goer and football supporter and has been actively involved in sports administration over a long period.

The Assistant to the Principal: Gillian Smith BMS, Grad Dip Tchg

Gillian Smith  is  Assistant to the Principal (AP) and the newest member of the College House management team. After  a career in marketing and insurance in Perth, Australia and London, Gillian chose to apply her skills to teaching in South Auckland then Christchurch.  Most recently she was a senior leader at a Christchurch primary school. Gillian brings all her career experience and that of watching her own children move through to study at university and adapt to the tertiary setting and its challenges.

House Manager: Sharon Scott

The glue that keeps the CH 'house' together, Sharon works with our house mums, as well as ensuring the nuts and bolts of the House run smoothly. Sharon says, "With my kitchen team we provide healthy seasonal food choices every day for our students, staff, conference and events attendees." In her spare time, Sharon enjoys music, gardening and travel.

Development Director: John Godfrey BA, MSc, CFRE

John is an old boy of Wanganui Collegiate School and a graduate of the New Zealand Drama School (now Toi Whakaari), John has a BA in Opera Studies and an MSc in Business Administration. His current responsibility is communicating the ambitions and needs of CH to the CH community.  John has experience of working with schools and universities in New Zealand, Australia, Scotland, Saudi Arabia and India. He is currently writing his PhD thesis on philanthropy in India.

Office Manager: Rosemary Wall

Rosemary is the friendly voice who answers our phones, manages the office and is the first port of call for CH visitors. Rosemary started working with us in 2013. Previously she ran her own company in partnership with her husband, and was, for 16 years, office manager of a Christchurch business.

Kitchen Manager: Shirolee Gallagher

Shirolee manages our kitchen and its staff, looking after our students' meals as well as organising the catering for the conferences, weddings and events held at CH. Having been at CH for 25 years, Shirolee is our longest serving staff member.

First Chef: Mark McCracken

The delicious food at CH is due, to a great extent, to Mark's wonderful cooking skills. As first chef in our kitchen, Mark works closely with Shirolee to provide our students and also our conference and event attendees with the great menus and special event treats for which CH is renowned.

Groundsman: David-Jon Wheeler BLA (Hons)

DJ is the magical person who keeps our grounds looking beautiful, the trees in good shape and the lawns weed-free. A landscape architecture graduate from Lincoln University, DJ has worked at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens and also kept the grounds at Tait Electronics.
