On Thursday 27th July 2006, College House held a special event to mark the opening of the new student common room and study centre at College House.

The Allan Pyatt Study Centre has been rebuilt and the new building now has two floors; the student common room on the ground floor and the Allan Pyatt Study Centre upstairs. A lift has been included in the design as well a parquet and marble staircase and reception area on the first floor.
The verandah, with symbols from the CH crest etched into glass, looks onto the Weston Courtyard.
Among those present at the official opening were the Warden, Rt. Rev. Dr David Coles, Bishop of Christchurch; members of the board, alumni, representatives from the university, staff and students.
The official opening address was made by the principal, who then invited the Bishop to bless the new buildings. The ribbon cutting ceremony was performed by the current Student President Matt Easton assisted by former presidents William Fletcher and Kenzo Pannell. Guests were then taken on a tour of the new facilities, and staff and students mingled with guests while the College House Octet performed.
Staff and students agree the new student common room facilities are superb. The centre provides students with a great space to relax, cook snacks, and play board games. The room also features a flat screen TV and play station. The new study centre facilities, which are regularly used for student tutorials and house meetings, will be well received by conference organisers. The centre has wireless communication, new projectors and a new sound system. The large room can be separated into smaller seminar rooms like the previous Study Centre.
Students have quickly made use of the new facilities; regular events have been taking place in the study centre and the common room has quickly become an important part of the house.
If you would like a tour of the new facilities, College House staff and students would be very happy to show you around. Please contact the College House main office.
